Omaha Hi Lo Poker

Home > Games Offered

Omaha Hi Lo Poker is another fun and challenging poker game to play at Absolute Poker. You can win the entire pot by showing the highest and lowest hand.

A low hand must be 5 un-paired cards with the highest card of 8 or below.

The winning low hand (8 or better) is first decided by the player with the lowest high card. If there is a tie with the high card, the player with the next lowest high card wins, etc. There is always a high hand winner but not always a low. If there is no qualifying low hand, then the high hand wins the entire pot.

At the showing of hands (showdown), each player can use any five of their cards for their high hand and any five of their cards for their low hand.

The best low hand is A, 2, 3, 4, 5. This will also count as a straight for high. Straights and Flushes do not apply to low hands. Aces can be used for both high and low.

A player can win the entire pot by showing both the highest and lowest hands.

Each player is dealt four cards face down (Hole Cards) at the start of Omaha poker. There are four betting rounds in a Omaha Poker game. For the first two rounds the bet is set at the lower limit of the stakes structure, and the last two rounds of betting (turn card and river) are set at the higher limit of the stakes structure. For example in a $5/$10 game, all bets and raises are $5 for the first two rounds (after private cards are dealt and once the flop is spread in center of table) and $10 for the last two rounds.

There are one bet and three raises allowed per betting round. Once any player has made the third raise, the pot is capped. The players call then call or fold. Check-raising is allowed in all online Omaha poker games.

For Absolute Poker, a Dealer Button or a round disk is used to show which player is the designate dealer in Omaha poker games.

After each hand is completed, the button moves clockwise to the next active player to be the dealer and will act on his/her hand last on each betting round. The player to the left of the button will receive a card first and must post a small blind. The small blind is equal to half the lower limit bet rounded down to the nearest dollar. The player to the left of the small blind must post the big blind. The big blind is equal to the lower limit bet. Blinds are similar to the ante in other poker games and must be posted prior to the dealer dealing any cards to the players.

The small and the big blinds can also be live bets. Players have the option of calling, raising or folding when the betting action comes back around to their position. After the flop and after each subsequent betting round, the first active player left of the button is first to act.

When players first sit down to play, they must post the equivalent of the big blind or the lower limit once or they can opt to "sit out" until it is their natural turn to post the big blind. This is to ensure game fairness to all players by preventing the possibility of players entering games in late position and then leave before they are required a post the big blind.
